In a dramatic reversal following passionate community pushback, Blizzard Entertainment announced today that an official Roleplay-PvP (RP-PvP) ruleset will be available for World of Warcraft: Forever when the game launches on November 4.
Just one week after Senior Game Designer Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield signaled reservations regarding server health and population fragmentation—as reported in our previous dispatch Blizzard Says No to RP-PvP in WoW Forever—the development team has formally listened to community feedback and opted to greenlight the requested ruleset.
Aggrend confirmed the decision on the official forums:
"Greetings,
In a recent episode of the WoW Forever Podcast we discussed some of our concerns with adding a Roleplay-PVP ruleset in WoW Forever, but we also mentioned that we were still discussing the topic internally and watching player feedback. Over the last few days, we’ve carefully examined what it would take to add it to WoW Forever and decided to go for it. We will add a Roleplay-PVP Ruleset for launch on November 4.
We’re also working hard to make it so that you can select the Roleplay-PvP ruleset and reserve names there next week when our Name Reservation period begins on Tuesday, October 27.
We really appreciate the feedback and comments on this.
Thank you!"
Community excitement ignited across Reddit's r/classicwow and Discord circles within minutes of the post. For roleplaying regiments who have spent weeks rallying for an authentic home, the announcement serves as a massive vindication.

The demand for this ruleset was already evident on the ground during beta testing. During the massive cross-continental march chronicled in Give Them the Rock and Stone Lads—when your roving scribe embedded directly with the all-dwarf guild <Ironforged> and guild leader Frugo (profiled in our dispatch Hearth of the Ironforged: Frugo Forever on Clan Unity, Battlegrounds & Mount Hyjal)—ranks of armored dwarves arrived at Southshore to battle for the contested Hillsbrad watchtower. As the battalion rallied by the riverbank, a dwarf yelled aloud into the night air:
"RP-PVP GIVE US A PLACE TO BE!"
That battle cry echoed across chat channels throughout the evening as guilds proved that roleplay storytelling and ruthless world warfare naturally elevate one another. Today, Blizzard delivered that exact place to be.
Players preparing for launch can select the newly confirmed Roleplay-PvP realm ruleset during name reservations beginning Tuesday, October 27, ahead of the global rollout on November 4.
