Blizzard Says No to RP-PvP in WoW Forever
Josh Greenfield Cites Server Health and SoD Trajectory as Community Reacts
oleplay-PvP enthusiasts hoping for a designated ruleset in World of Warcraft: Forever received definitive word today: Blizzard Entertainment has no current plans to launch an RP-PvP ruleset. Senior Game Designer Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield confirmed during the latest WoW Forever Podcast PvP Deep Dive that the upcoming Realmless architecture will only support RP-PvE alongside standard Normal and PvP options.
Blizzard's reasoning centers on server sustainability and observed player behavior. While acknowledging the fond memories surrounding 2019's Grobbulus, Aggrend pointed to Season of Discovery's Crusader Strike, where the RP tag had to be removed after three months when it devolved into a streamer-heavy PvP realm:
That organic spirit is already thriving on the ground across our Community Desk reports. Characters like Shobek and Frugo Forever—profiled in our interview Hearth of the Ironforged and chronicled in the dwarf open-world march Give Them the Rock and Stone Lads—embody the exact blend of roleplay storytelling and martial combat that made RP-PvP special. While Aggrend added to "never say never" down the road, roleplay combatants will need to make do in standard realms for launch.

While acknowledging the fond memories surrounding 2019's Grobbulus, Aggrend pointed to Season of Discovery's Crusader Strike, where the RP tag had to be removed after three months when it devolved into a streamer-heavy PvP realm:
"Whenever it comes to RP-PVP, people really remember fondly stuff like Grobbulus in 2019, but unfortunately, the reality is every other RP-PVP realm we've done since then has followed a different trajectory... RP as a community is honestly pretty small in comparison to the Normal and PvP communities. With our realmless system, in order for it to work, we sort of need a critical mass of players... Taking that already tight-knit community and splitting it again is something we have to carefully consider."
Content creator HelloJTello—whose live broadcasts are featured on our Realm Classifieds Notice Board—published a video breakdown questioning the decision. As HelloJTello and community commentators noted, Crusader Strike's fate was driven by Blizzard keeping realm names hidden until launch, funneling massive streamer communities into the sole RP-PvP server. Furthermore, manually flagging on RP-PvE fails to deliver organic world PvP danger, leaving dedicated roleplayers without a true home.
